Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music – Volume Four

Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music – Volume Four completes his original vision—adding the missing “Earth” volume to the celebrated Red, Blue, and Green set. Released in 2000 by Revenant (No. 211) through the Harry Smith Archives, this deluxe 2×CD edition is housed in a beautifully printed, pretty incredible 96‑page book. The collection features seminal recordings by the Monroe Brothers, Carter Family, Lead Belly, Robert Johnson, Bukka White, Uncle Dave Macon and more, all in Smith’s intended sequence. Enriching the experience are insightful essays by Ed Sanders, John Cohen, John Fahey, Dick Spottswood, and Greil Marcus, along with rare photos including a young Harry Smith at work. This is a forgotten heirloom of American musicology and a lush, essential addition to any roots‑music collection.
