Folklorist Armas Otto Väisänen captured blind kantele player Teppana Jänis in 1916–17, preserving 22 striking melodies from the Karelian borderlands. A century later, Arja Kastinen and the late Taito Hoffrén respond to these ghostly, fragile artifacts with performances that are both faithful and emotionally resonant. We hear the originals - saturated, pitch-warped, deeply human - and then their modern echoes, rendered with clarity and reverence.
