Don Cherry - Organic Music Society (2LP)

Don Cherry – Organic Music Society

A cornerstone of spiritual jazz and global musical exploration, Don Cherry's Organic Music Society is a visionary meeting point between free jazz, African rhythms, Indian classical influences and Brazilian ceremonial traditions.

Recorded in 1971–72 during Cherry's creative years in Scandinavia, this extraordinary double album captures his philosophy of music without borders. Working with musicians including Naná Vasconcelos, Bengt Berger and Christer Bothén, Cherry moves effortlessly between hypnotic percussion, devotional chants, floating horn melodies and expansive collective improvisation.

Highlights include the deeply atmospheric "North Brazilian Ceremonial Hymn," the exploratory "Relativity Suite" and a beautifully liberated interpretation of Pharoah Sanders' spiritual jazz classic "The Creator Has a Master Plan."

Wrapped in Moki Cherry's unmistakable artwork, Organic Music Society is both a compelling musical journey and a defining statement of Cherry's artistic vision.

Essential for listeners drawn to cosmic or deep, spiritual jazz, and the more adventurous edges of global music.
