After more than a decade away, Rob Mazurek and Chad Taylor reconvene as the Chicago Underground Duo for Hyperglyph, their most expansive and exploratory LP yet. Across its 11 tracks, the duo blend free jazz roots with modular electronics, Saharan-inspired polyrhythms, and dubwise production tricks, moving with the same precision and daring that’s defined their work ever since they first played together in the late '80s.

From the fierce stereo drumming and kosmische bassline of “Click Song” to the deconstructed spiritual jazz of “Succulent Amber,” Hyperglyph spans genre and geography. Mazurek’s toolkit now includes modular synths, samplers, and the RMI electric piano famously used by Miles Davis, while Taylor complements his kit with mbira, kalimba, and glockenspiel.
